Assorted information

These are just bits and pieces of information I gather from time to time. If anyone can provide further details on any of them, I would be grateful.

Hauptman's whitebeam tree is 15.5 metres tall and has a trunk circumference of 285 cm. It is among the tallest trees of its kind in Slovenia.

Bows from rowan and whitebeam wood. Interesting web site here: http://redhawk55.wordpress.com/2010/09/16/bow-staves-vol-1-harvesting-rowan-and-whitebeam/

  1. Hello there,

I found your blog accidentally after searching for service trees in the UK. I found it quite interesting!

I am not sure if you aware of this, but there are well over 10 endemic Sorbus taxons in Hungary. I tried to find some references in English, but there are hardly any even in my language. This is what I have found:

This is not much I am afraid. As far I can recall from my studies they started first as hybridisation between Sorbus aria, graeca and torminalis and then they interbred with the parent species again. Their morphology and ecological attributes are somewhere between the parent species. Their populations are safe and healthy however each of them is very small and very local. I hope you will find this interesting.
